WELCOME TO THE KIRKLAND WOMAN'S CLUB
. . . . . . . a non-profit charitable organization bringing together women from Kirkland and surrounding areas to promote friendliness and welfare locally, regionally, and internationally, with monthly luncheon meetings, coffee socials, and charitable projects such as elder advocacy, Hopelink, cancer research, Operation Smile, and other local and international causes.
General Federation of Women's Clubs
The Kirkland Woman's Club (KWC) is part of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC), an international organization, one of the world’s largest and oldest women’s volunteer service organizations, has a long history of philanthropy, social and political advocacy, and leadership.
Founded in April 1890, GFWC created and sustained a wide variety of programs and projects in the arts, conservation, education, home life, international affairs, and public affairs. GFWC accomplishments include establishing over 75% of America’s public libraries; providing support to veterans of war in the United States and abroad; and, was one of five women’s organizations chosen to participate in the ratification of the United Nations Charter.
Over the past 130 years, GFWC political and social campaigns resulted in the passage of several laws, and to this day, GFWC continues to address social and political issues affecting women and families through programs that combat violence against women and promote human rights and peace throughout the world.
The Kirkland Woman's Club is located across from Kirkland City Hall in their original historic building. In its early days the building also housed the original Kirkland Library and a Baby Wellness Clinic. It is listed on the State of Washington Historical Register and the National Registry of Historic Places, as well as the King County Historic Preservation Program.
In addition to providing a gracious setting for our various Club activities, the facility is available to rent for such functions as wedding receptions, memorial services, or recurring business meetings. It accommodates up to 99 guests, and features a concert-sized Steinway grand piano, perfect for music recitals or receptions.
Announcement of Grant Funding
The Kirkland Woman’s Club announced with great pleasure their receipt of grant funding for a professional needs assessment of their Kirkland Landmark Building, constructed in 1925. This project is supported in part by 4Culture/King County Lodging Tax. The needs assessment includes an analysis of the structure and electrical system by architects and engineers, with their recommendation for repairs and upgrades along with cost estimates.
Club members plan to use the assessment as a roadmap for any necessary repairs. The group anticipates following these repairs with a number of aesthetic improvements.
Grant funding for the project was awarded by 4Culture, a Seattle organization that distributes grants for a variety of cultural and building preservation projects. These funds are generated by lodging tax revenue collected by King County and then funneled back into the community through the award of grants.
